Egress-Ready — 30″ & 36″ Projection

Wells and covers that project 30″ or more — 762 mm at 30″ and 914 mm at 36″, both clearing the 760 mm the National Building Code requires in front of a bedroom egress window (NBC 9.9.10.1).

The projection is only half the test. The window itself still has to give an unobstructed opening of at least 0.35 m² with no dimension under 380 mm. Provincial and municipal amendments vary, so confirm both with your building department before you order.
