How do I read the sizes?
Every product name reads width X projection X height — so 48″W X 30″P X 22″H is 48 inches along the foundation wall, standing 30 inches out from it, dropping 22 inches from grade. Covers carry only two numbers, width and projection, because they sit flat across the top of the well.
Measure the opening, not the old well — a rusted well often sits proud of the size it started at.
How do I measure for a window well?
Three numbers. Run the tape along the foundation wall past both sides of the window opening for the width. Measure straight out from the wall for the projection. Then measure from finished grade down to where the base of the well will sit for the height.
If the hole is already dug, measure the hole rather than the window — the well has to line the excavation, not just clear the sash.
Which projection do I need for a bedroom?
30 inches. That is 762 mm, which clears the 760 mm the National Building Code requires in front of a bedroom egress window (NBC 9.9.10.1).
The well is only half the test. The window itself must give an unobstructed opening of at least 0.35 m² with no dimension under 380 mm. Provincial and municipal amendments vary, so confirm both with your building department before ordering.
Where do you ship?
Anywhere in Canada. Every order leaves our own shop in Calgary — smaller parts by courier, wells and wide covers by freight — and the rate is quoted at checkout against your postal code.
What does powder coating add?
A gloss black finish over the galvanized steel, chosen on the product page. It is the option worth taking when the well faces a patio, a walkway, or anywhere it will actually be looked at.
Galvanized wells ship in 1–2 business days. Powder coating adds 1–2 weeks for completion.
Can two wells stack for a deeper hole?
Yes. Where the drop is deeper than the tallest height listed, two wells of the same width and projection stack and fasten together. Order both and tell us in the order notes so we can match the flanges.
Galvanized steel or aluminum covers?
Steel is the stronger, cheaper frame and ships from stock. Aluminum is lighter — the choice where the cover comes off regularly, or where the span is wide enough that weight starts to matter — and it will not rust.
Aluminum covers are made to order, so allow 4–5 weeks.
What is the polycarbonate sheet?
A clear sheet that fixes to the cover frame. The mesh on its own keeps out leaves, gravel and anyone who might step into the well; the polycarbonate adds rain and fine debris to that list without cutting the daylight reaching the window.
How is an oversized well delivered?
Wells past a certain width move as freight rather than parcel. Delivery is curbside — plan on a second person to carry a large well around the house.
Can you build a custom size?
We manufacture in our own shop in Calgary, so any width, projection or height is possible. Send the three numbers and we will quote it.
